What is XBMC?

XBMC is a free open source software and media player that has many benefits which is created and developed by XBMC Foundation, a non-profit technology consortium. The award winning software is available to multiple platforms such as Linux, Windows, iOS, Android, and OSX. Users are allowed to play and view all media files from own storage or network or even from the internet.

You can play a large number of video and music files on XBMC. Other than that, you also can display photos on the media player. The files can be either stored in your hard disk, local network or even streaming online. You can check the weather forecast too from your XBMC or even view you photo albums on Facebook.

Some third party add-ons are available to extend XBMC capabilities. The add-ons will basically allow an interface between the XBMC and other websites or applications. This will allow users to watch videos, listen to internet radio, play online games, check Gmail, and last but not least access to the renowned social media, Facebook.

You can alter the appearance of the GUI interface completely according to your own preferences. You are able to change on how it looks and feels. There are different colours, images, and menu theme that can be chosen to create an impressive interface for your needs to make XBMC as an entertainment platform or an information platform.

Another feature that XBMC hold is that you can control your media by using various supported remote controls, CEC-compatible TVs, or one of the new Smartphone and Tablet Apps.
