Broadband Global Area Network (BGAN) is an innovative technology to provide internet connection to remote location with the most easy and convenient way.
BGAN terminal devices usually weight from only 1 to 4 Kilograms and can be carried and used anywhere as long as the is line-of-sight to the satellite exists.
BGAN terminal settings and configuration are not as complicated as the technology might sound. There are few steps and it may take less than 10 minutes to set up your terminal device depending on location and situation.
Below are few steps to setup BGAN terminal for your guide and reference.
1. Turn Your BGAN Terminal ON
BGAN terminal is basically a satellite terminal to connect to your laptop or other devices. Normally, you will have two option of power source either to use power supply or battery.
If you are in a remote location where there is no chance for electricity, you might to consider and plan your battery supply for power.
As other technology device, first step is to ensure power and turn on your BGAN terminal.
2. Confirm GPS Location
Place your terminal to a flat, sturdy and fixed location where there is a maximum exposure to the sky. Then the device will automatically obtain a GPS signal.
BGAN Terminal screen will show “Acquiring GPS” status and once GPS fixed is acquired, you may proceed to the next step.
3. Search for Strength Signal
Adjust your terminal location to few spots. You can search for the strongest signal by following the beep sound. The quicker of the beeping sound, the better the signal is.
4. Connect to Laptop
When you have successfully found the best terminal location with the strongest signal, then it is time for you to connect the terminal to your laptop.
There are few options to choose such as via ethernet, WiFI, USB and Bluetooth. However, it is highly recommend to connect using regular ethernet cable connection for a more stable connection.
5. Registering to the Network
Next, launch your BGAN LaunchPad software. Check for BGAN terminal status and Inmarsat signal strength in the control panel interface.
You need at least 45% signal strength to enable the device to register to the network. Adjust your location if necessary.
When signal strength is sufficient, LaunchPad will register to the network and when it is successfully done, you may start using the connection to send email, surf the internet as well as making phone call or text messages.
