How the Building Industry has changed over the last 10 years

Like any other industry, the construction industry changes and evolves all the time. Health and Safety

Although there were health and safety rules and regulations in place 10 years ago, some of them have since been tweaked and changed. There are even stricter guidelines and procedures in place nowadays to ensure the safety of both employees and customers. The health and safety measures that are put in place are under tight supervision and inspection.

The last ten years has seen two very different state of affairs for those involved in the construction industry. Up until late 2006/early 2007, there was a building boom that hit Ireland on a scale that was unprecedented in the history of the state. The demand for construction was at its peak and the economy flourished because of it. The construction industry has suffered due to the economic downturn and has been through an enormous contraction over the past five years. Every area of the construction area has been greatly affected and the level of demand is just not there anymore.

Finance available

The building boom in Ireland saw many people splash out on building lavish houses and businesses. The going was good and the demand for building housing estates, apartments and office blocks was exceptionally high. The finance available back then is a stark contrast to what people can afford nowadays. Since the recession hit, the majority of people can no longer afford to invest money in building big lavish houses and has affected the level of demand within the construction industry.

Peoples Requirements

When deciding to build a house, everyone has their own personal ideas, plans and requirements. The last ten years have seen a huge increase in people deciding to ‘go green’ when building their homes. In the past, building an environmentally friendly house meant building a non-traditional structure that didn’t blend in with other architectural styles. In recent years however, more and more construction companies are incorporating eco-friendly methods into building affordable, sustainable and attractive looking structures. There are numerous advantages associated with building an eco-friendly house and that is why they are more popular today in comparison with ten years ago.

Construction Leads

The internet is now the go to place for construction leads. As the years have progressed, people have become more familiar with the internet and now rely more heavily on it for a source of information.  A lot of people are now search on the internet on their phone which makes the internet more accessible to all. The availability of construction leads that are to be found online have only risen with time. Whether you are a construction worker looking for a job or a supplier looking for customers, the internet is the first place you should look.
