Make Transferring Large Website Pages Easier
Sometimes the best website designs require input from multiple people. While it might be easier to do all of the work in one location, sometimes circumstances prevent that. Whether you need to work with designers on the other side of the world, or just need to get the client’s approval on your website design, you need to make sure that you follow these steps.
Put Together a List of Included Items
Whether you’re using the cloud to send files or an email, put together a list of all the items that you plan to include in the message or that the other person needs to look at. In some cases, this is referred to as a master list. The master list ensures that the other person knows exactly what to expect. It also allows him to check to make sure that everything came through. If you are going to be transferring a lot of individual files, you should include even a minute list with reference to the images as well as the charts you are using. This way the person who should be receiving them will know if everything got in from the cloud or not.
Upload the Files in Chronological or Logical Order
Whenever possible, upload files and name them in a chronological or logical order. You can send large files free on a number of programs, but if you put them in an order that makes sense, it will be easier for the other person to get through them. To keep them in order, start them with numerals. Add a couple of zeros to allow for multiple files. So your first document or web page would be “001 Web Page” or something like that.
Clearly Label All Versions
Rarely will you ever be able to complete a web design project without having to make different versions. It can be quite easy to get confused. Rather than trusting that everyone who is involved will remember which versions are old, and which ones are current, clearly label all versions. You can either label them in the article file names, or you can use the folders to organize them, or you can do both. The point is to make sure that everyone involved know which web pages go with which version.
Upload During a Main Downtime
When you’re working on a web project, it’s best not to compress the pages unless you know what you’re doing. Compressing them into a zip folder is separate from compressing the actual pages into a smaller form. The compression results in a lowered resolution. The lowered resolution may work for what you want eventually, but during the web design, you need the content to be as high resolution as possible. However, this can make your upload speeds quite slow. Instead of fighting those speeds, upload during one of your company’s primary downtimes.
Transferring large files for web design is not nearly as difficult as it once was. You can share files with a number of different people and get their input within a short amount of time. However, you can make it easier by putting together a master list of all that is included in the upload, upload the files in chronological or logical order, clearly label all versions, and upload them during a main downtime.
